Robert Taylor

Robert Taylor was one of the original people behind ArmadilloCon and FACT. These days, he serves as FACT’s Vice President for Life, and as part of that, delivers programs to students to encourage the appreciation of reading and genre fiction.

Robert discovered fandom in El Paso in the early 1970s, after he moved there to work at a local TV station. He met Willie Siros at Zothique, the local SF club. Robert and Willie attended their first convention together, Westercon 27, in Los Angeles in 1974. That year, Robert moved to Austin, TX, to work with the local ABC affiliate, KVUE, where he worked for many years. (Fun example here.)

Robert chaired ArmadilloCon 8 (1986). He was an integral member of the bidcom for the Austin in ’85 NASFiC bid and vice-chair of the resulting LoneStarCon. He also served on the board of the San Antonio in ’97 Worldcon bid and the LoneStarCon 2 concom, and has worked on many other conventions.

This photo was taken at the 2016 WorldCon in Kansas City. Robert Taylor is holding a Hugo Award from the 1976 WorldCon (also known as MidAmeriCon, and also held in Kansas City).
