Howard Waldrop will be appearing at ArmadilloCon!

Howard Waldrop is a science fiction author who works primarily in short fiction. Several of his stories have been nominated for awards. “The Ugly Chickens” won the 1980 Nebula Award for Best Novelette and the 1981 World Fantasy Award for Short Fiction. “The Dead Sea-Bottom Scrolls” (2013) was nominated for a Locus Award.  “Night of the Cooters” was a finalist for both the Hugo Award and the Locus Award.

In August, 2021, George R.R. Martin posted an announcement that fans would, at last, see a film version of “Night of the Cooters.” It will star Vincent D’Onofrio and features a screenplay written by Joe R. Lansdale!

Howard has been a frequent attendee of ArmadilloCon. He was the Toastmaster at the first ArmadilloCon (1979), Guest of Honor at ArmadilloCon 5 (1979), and Toastmaster at ArmadilloCon 29 (2007). He has also been honored at other conventions, including the 1995 World Fantasy Convention, Readercon 15 (2003), and Loscon 46 (2019). He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the World Fantasy Convention in 2021.

He is a member of the Turkey City Writer’s Workshop and has taught at the Clarion Workshop.
